Boston Public Market - Boston, MA

Farmers' Markets are even more fun to go to when traveling! You don't know what is the most popular item, how big the venue is and how much a bunch of food will cost you... I love it! I recently went to Boston, MA for the Food and Nutrition Conference and Expo and I had some time to wander Boston before the event started. I ended up walking 8 miles in one day because I was intrigued by the gorgeous architecture and fall foliage and walked in different directions while on the way to the Boston Public Market.

Now, this day was what some may consider a summer day in Boston and it was lovely. Not only was the Boston Public Market huge, it was full of many different products inside and a bunch of produce on the outside! This was definitely one of my favorite farmers' markets.

Here are some goodies I either bought or wish I had if I had a larger bag!

If you are ever in Boston-- this market place is a must see!

Kapi'olani Community College (KCC) Farmers' Market- Honolulu, HI

Farmers' markets have been around for years and I have been going to them since I was quite small. I recall getting fresh vegetables such as onions and bell peppers and of course, fruit. My favorites were watermelon and Honeycrisp Apples.

Living in Hawaii I am very fortunate to be in the middle of one of the best growing regions in the world. In addition, I live close to one of the best farmers markets in Honolulu, the Kapi'olani Community College Farmers' Market. The KCC Farmers' Market is every Saturday and features all Hawaiian grown and made foods and products.

I was fortunate enough to volunteer at one of the popular food vendors at KCC Farmer's Market. Kukui Sausage Co. was the vendor I volunteered at for three of the five years I lived on Oahu. It was a wonderful experience and I even got to practice my customer service skills as well as enjoy walking around to each vendor to purchase locally grown goodies!

Most of the vendors at the KCC Farmers' Market stress the importance of selling locally grown foods to help the economy within the islands. Healthy eating is influenced by how our food is grown and prepared. The farmers market represents the uniqueness of Hawaii and the benefits of eating the best local food.

Organic food is defined as food grown without chemicals and processed without additives, under standards adopted by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA). Organic foods claim to be more nutritious, safer to eat, and usually tastes better because it contains no synthetically compounded fertilizers, pesticides, herbicides, hormones, medicated feed, or antibiotics or chemicals used in food processing. The benefits of purchasing produce from local vendors would be the 100% organic products and reasonable prices. Some of my favorite purchases include apple-bananas, pineapple, avocados, kale and mango.  Instead of purchasing produce from the grocery store, support the local market and find some incredible deals on fresh, organic foods or produce!

Here's some goodies I bought at the KCC Farmer's Market!
